Job Stuff 81

This is more or less a newsletter for job seekers like myself.  I try to find good job search strategies, bad job search strategies, pure BS and job related articles every week.  So far I’ve never run short.  Please pass this around. I’m not doing this for any reason other than the desire to help and communicate with other job seekers.  If you have any good links or stories, especially stories please comment.  If you want the story private, just put that in the comment and I will trash it and  not let it post.

First, thanks for the reference and citation! 🙂

As to the “desperate” article. While I agree one shouldn’t come in to an interview pleading for work, ANY work… there absolutely needs to be some empathy on the part of hiring authorities – whether the manager or HR or both. The economy has sucked canal water for 8+ years; to reject people a priori because they don’t match an idealized image of what a career path “should be” is folly, and IMHO soulless.

Some years ago I had what I thought would be a slam-dunk interview. Had EVERYTHING they wanted; in addition, I used to work for one of their largest customers. But the hiring manager – who had only EVER worked at that one company – just didn’t grasp that my work of late had been short-term contracts (to put food on the table) – and thought I was a job hopper. THAT’S WHAT CONTACTS ARE, YOU IDIOT!!!

I know. I KNOW. It’s just so frustrating.

Here in CT, the economy has sucked for longer than that.
