Artist Of The week: Darrel K. Sweet

They say that you can’t judge a book by it’s cover. A good cover can sell a book though. Back in the 1980’s and 1990’s I would at least look at any book with  cover that had DKS on the cover illustration.  There was something fun about the dragons, wizards and other such things that made you want to pick up the books.  Here’s his bio.

I disagree. You can and should judge a book by its cover. That is what the cover is for. If you can’t judge a book by its cover, then the cover has failed in its essential mission, to market the book.

Love, your blog, I don’t usually comment. I hate that saying.

I don’t like it either. As is aid I bought a lot of books based on the fact that they had Darrel Sweet Covers. Probably a couple of hundred over the thirty years or so that Sweet was doing covers. which says just how prolific he was. One reason I do these art posts is that is that there is so much great stuff that will never get noticed by the “art community” which has reduced itself to producing trash.
