Job Stuff 67

This is more or less a newsletter for job seekers like myself.  I try to find good job search strategies, bad job search strategies, pure BS and job related articles every week.  So far I’ve never run short.  Please pass this around. I’m not doing this for any reason other than the desire to help and communicate with other job seekers.  If you have any good links or stories, especially stories please comment.  If you want the story private, just put that in the comment and I will trash it and  not let it post.

It’s all too easy to just neglect to provide feedback:

You may want to rethink that. I keep saying this over and over. The company’s reputation is on the line with every application. If they act as if the potential employee is to be treated as poorly as possible, then what impact does that have? Think about the amount of time and effort as company that yo spend trying to attract customers. Then you turn around and treat potential employees, who, by the very nature of things are involved in your business one way or another, like crap. Just consider if that potential employee that your ATS system flushes or you “ghost” turns around and goes to work for your biggest customer. The problem is that once you flush good will, you can’t control where that ends up. Every job seeker has friends, colleagues and coworkers that you know nothing about. To say nothing about social and new media. Think about this. Are you so sure about your “candidate experience” that you want said candidate’s experience on Drudge?

David Hunt’s comment:

Not only does this practice, among others, negatively affect a specific company’s reputation, ref Nick Corcodilos‘s excellent article “Death by Lethal Reputation”: http://www.asktheheadhunter.com/halethalrep.htm But it affects the perception of employers in general by the workforce in general: https://davidhuntpe.wordpress.com/2014/12/29/peeing-in-the-candidate-reservoir/ Yet anyone who points this out who is job searching is “angry”. So let me flip things. Imagine a sales force implementing policies and procedures that required potential customers to spend multiple hours filling out an application to be a customer; having 75%+ of those applications never be seen by an actual sales person for some error or misread of the information and thus never getting even a callback; have a sales call with that customer, and then have the customer have no feedback… and the Sales VP excoriates the customers for bad attitudes and not filling out the paperwork correctly while wondering why sales are plummeting and the company is getting bad press. Or am I guilty of thinking again without permission – i.e., being uppity? https://www.youtube.com/watch?

It’s often better to cast a broader net.

The best diversity is the diversity of ideas.  Bring people in from “outside” provides that diversity.

Mike Rowe again.

You have to ask?

Yes you should. Who know where it’s going to go?

Somebody was REALLY pissed off by this HR director.

Apparently recruiters are having problems with the amount of bruchoffs they are getting when they call people at work.
