Job Stuff 36

This is more or less a newsletter for job seekers like myself.  I try to find good job search strategies, bad job search strategies, pure BS and job related articles every week.  So far I’ve never run short.  Please pass this around. I’m not doing this for any reason other than the desire to help and communicate with other job seekers.  If you have any good links or stories, especially stories please comment.  If you want the story private, just put that in the comment and I will trash it and  not let it post.

If hiring is that big a pain, you are doing it wrong.

There’s just one thing wrong with this. I the, candidate pay the recruiter’s commission out of my compensation. So, to my mind, the recruiter does work for me as well as the client. If I’m not treated professionally, which I rarely have been, the deal doesn’t happen and everybody loses. Her attitude, which is all to frequently prevalent in recruiters is to treat the candidate as a subordinate in the negotiations. That’s a BIG downcheck right off the bat.

People are not resources.  They are prospective employees and coworkers. You are trying to buy their time, not them.

Good interview tips for Skype.

So basically HR types feel compelled to ply private detective and you get to play suspect.

The problem is that this is guilty until proven innocent and destroying people based on superficial and perhaps false evidence.  There’s also the “let he who is without sin cast the first stone.” I wonder what would be found if the candidates started googling recruiters. And what would happen if candidates started to spread recruiter profiles on social media. Google is a double edged sword and everybody’s reputation is just as vulnerable.

Most people don’t have straight line lives.  At least the interesting ones don’t.

The problem is that the HR types are looking for purple squirrels rather than rare finds.

We need more people making stuff.

As a substitute for a ton of student debt, yes I would encourage my kids to get into manufacturing.
