Job Stuff 27

This is more or less a newsletter for job seekers like myself.  I try to find good job search strategies, bad job search strategies, pure BS and job related articles every week.  So far I’ve never run short.  Please pass this around. I’m not doing this for any reason other than the desire to help and communicate with other job seekers.  If you have any good links or stories, especially stories please comment.  If you want the story private, just put that in the comment and I will trash it and  not let it post.

Ten signs that the place you are interviewing with is a bad company.

You should be able to spot some of these even without asking too many questions or looking at the employee handbook.

Forget my past, I can do this job!!!

Sell the sizzle, not the steak.

Buy this book.  Never put it on a computer that an employer can see.

I don’t like what this book has to say.  Not because it is wrong, but because it’s right.   Unfortunately this is the world we job seekers have to live with.  The book also has some very good ideas on how to market yourself that will work even if you don’t agree with the book’s premises.

Again the burden is on the candidate.

Yet another article about superficialities.

The recruiter needs to understand that they need to provide value.

After all I’m earning their salary as well as mine.  Unfortunately most recruiters I’ve known don’t understand that.

People are pissed off at this sort of behavior.

The Fury of the Dirt People

Zenefits is a company that exists because of the financialization of the US economy. Cheap credit means cash to create this firm and keep it afloat while it parties its way through a ton of cash. It’s also the sort of firm that helps business treat their employees like furniture. Americans see these stories and naturally wonder how these rich pricks are allowed to get away with this nonsense. No American can smoke and drink at work, much less get it on in the stairwell.

Go ahead, talk about politics at work?  Well if you are the top boss or you are fairly comfortable with the people around you, go ahead.

Or if you are right in line with the current social justice groupthink as of five minutes or so which better be if you know what’s good for you.  My advice is to keep your mouth shut.

Recruiter, are you known, liked and trusted?

Not if you spam everybody in sight.  He’s probably worse with candidates.
