Job Stuff 13

This is more or less a newsletter for job seekers like myself.  I try to find good job search strategies, bad job search strategies, pure BS and job related articles every week.  So far I’ve never run short.  Please pass this around. I’m not doing this for any reason other than the desire to help and communicate with other job seekers.  If you have any good links or stories, especially stories please comment.  If you want the story private, just put that in the comment and I will trash it and  not let it post.

What does it say about a company that their own recruiting system is so broken that a failure to even initiate contact with prospective employees is inevitable.

If all candidates can do is go around the system, why have it at all?

What it comes down to is, we couldn’t be bothered to work with you, you nothing.

“We’re not going to hire you so getting back to you isn’t really important.”  Is that the message yoU want to send to potential candidates?  Would you deal with people who sent you RFQ’s like that?  Think about what would happen it you acted like the RFQ was a job candidate.

I wish I could understand the stupid prejudices people have against people being “too old.”

It’s called being experienced and it’s something that should be treasured.

Employee shortage?  Not unless we see some growth.

They’re kidding right?

It’s as If the people writing this have no clue, no clue at all.

Very good advice on conquering the “O” word.

Frankly every job I’ve had has been a new experience and I’ve never felt “overqualified” to be paid.

I have to wonder where these people come up with this stuff.  It’s all just nonsense.

A little of this kind of “candidate experience” and the typical candidate has to wonder if he’s a lunatic; or applying to work a funny farm.

It’s easy to bully a job seeker. After all, what’s he going to do, quit?

How do you measure what can’t be measured.

For that matter, how do you pull an achiever out of the muck they may have been existing in.

I have to seriously wonder if anybody has considered that “us VS the candidate” might not be the best way to start a relationship.

Eight things that job seekers hate to hear.

“I hear that Target is hiring” from family does not go over well.  The fact that the interviewer hasn’t actually read the resume before the interview happens more often than not, in my experience.  And “don’t call us, we’ll call you?”  Yeah right.  Just walk out and be glad you didn’t end up in that dump.

Font’s don’t matter to a character reader.  The character reader only sees the ascii character code of the text  and matches it to a keyword string that the user on the other end has input.

It’s better to go for a professional look and readability by using the standard Times Roman.

I don’t think that employers understand what they are doing when they treat candidates the way they do.
