Adam Savage calls his shop, his cave. The cave is hidden, but you can find a tour if you know where to look. I play a game with myself trying to find it’s real location just based on hints in the video, but have failed miserably.
Here’s a tour.
Sorting his hardware.
Sortimo is made for ambulances and other vehicles for sorting supplies in them. Bosch and Stanley make similar products that can be used for shops.
A Google Street View tour of the shop.
How to find materials.
Adam’s ILM toolboxes.
Adam’s suggested tool list for beginners.
I like Adam’s idea of “first order retrievablility.” Having the right tool at hand when you need can speed things up incredibly. That’s one reason that I built my own versions of Adam’s boxes. The typical tool box is not very organized. I know that mine are not, for the most part. This is something I’ve been working on changing. I think I need two kinds of boxes. One is a set of portable boxes that I can take places, especially to work. The other is a way of organizing tools on my workbench so that they can be found.
